With US President Donald Trump calling for an end to mass shootings in the US, it is only a matter of time before gun owners and their families will have to defend themselves against the US law, the US State Department said.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said it was “absolutely critical” that all gun owners are protected from the threat of a mass shooting.
“We must be vigilant to the threat posed by domestic terrorism, and we must work to protect the lives and property of all Americans,” he said.
“This is why it is imperative that all Americans have access to an effective, safe, and effective deterrent to domestic terrorism.”
The US has been on high alert since the December 2015 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead.
